Falling ManJerram has just returned from Star City in Russia where he took part in a Parabolic flight. Experiencing weightlessness, Jerram and the aircraft repeatedly fell from the sky for a duration of 23 seconds. Inspired by the film 9/11 The Falling Man by Henry Singer, Jerram recreated the pose of the famous Falling Man, photographed by Richard Drew during 9/11. Jerram's simple performative act in 0g pays tribute to the jumpers of 9/11 who opted to take their lives in their hands rather than die the flames. Footage of the flight will be used for a large scale installation later in the year. With thanks to Lyn Hagan, Marko Peljhan and Nasser Azam for organising the flight. |

Interview with Master Well DiggerDuring a recent trip to Iran Luke interviewed a master Qanat well digger about his life. Lowered 300m down on a rope, men dig mile long tunnels across, transferring the water out of the desert into the town. Should the tunnel collapse, they wear white, the colour of the Islamic burial shroud. He spoke of 'digging a devil' the dangerous job of digging upwards, into the base of a water filled well. Luke hopes to make a film and installation about Iranian Qanats. |

A Morris Minor performanceSt. Lawrence University, New York 2002. The small English 1000cc car was amplified using a dozen microphones placed inside the engine and exhaust which were fed through mixing desk to a 2K Pa system. Recalling the sounds of other objects such as a clock, truck and jet plane, the cars sounds were interwoven with taped interviews from the 1940's of the minor designer, Alec Issigonis. |

Green Man1day performance for Inter-action, Bermondsey Park, London 2000. "Because I'm colour-blind my perception of a forest is not as it should be; I hardly ever notice berries or flowers, and the colours of spring look the same as those of autumn." In this performance the 'green man', could only be seen when walking between trees and would quickly become invisible when stationary near foliage. |
Interpretation Figure. This figure has been spotted in the city of Bristol on numerous occasions. It has been interpreted as an angel, city spirit, alien and hoax. How might this figure be interpreted in Texas or Rio? The Bristol Evening Post helped promote the myth before withdrawing their support on grounds that they weren't telling the truth. The performance and photographic artwork was commissioned by Enable for Electric Pavilion. |
